Diabetic foot care podiatry services for the North Shore and Hibiscus Coast
Not a lot of people are aware that if you are a diabetic you should be looking after your feet. Diabetes is a chronic disease where insulin is no longer produced or no longer produced in sufficient quantities, resulting in elevated blood sugar levels.
Book an appointment with one of our podiatrists at either Albany, Warkworth or Silverdale clinics, and we can assist you with diabetic footcare including making a plan for future care.
This can cause a number of complications, the most common being:
Damage to the small nerve endings:
Damage to the small nerve endings can lead to neuropathy which causes a loss of sensation in the feet so you may be unable to detect injury.
You may also experience numbness, tingling or a burning sensation in the feet
A reduction in the blood supply:
Causing cramps in the legs, delayed healing and make people with diabetes more prone to infection following any cut or wound in the skin.
At Core Clinic we hold contracts for funded diabetic foot care under Procare and Comprehensive care, we work with your GP and diabetic nurse to provide ongoing diabetic foot care and screening to prevent the above from happening.
If you are a diabetic and see your diabetic nurse you can ask to be referred to us for government funded diabetic foot check/care. Not sure if your doctor is part of ProCare Comprehensive care, Cause Collective or NHC? You can give us a call!
