Fungal nail and skin foot infection podiatrists - come and see us at our Core Clinic locations in Albany, Silverdale and Warkworth

Fungal conditions of the feet, usually the nails or skin, are super common and for most can be embarrassing, sometimes this is the reason they are left untreated and subsequently spread and become worse. In our jobs we have seen it all, and fungal infections are a very common sight and can be easily sorted with the right advice.

Fungal infections of the nails (known as onychomycosis) can arise from microscopic fungal, mould or yeast organisms taking up residence on your toe nails. Fungus like a moist warm environment and when we are in socks and shoes all day, this can cause the fungus to spread and make it difficult to treat.

If left untreated, infection can progress deeper into the nail, discolouring it, causing pain and sometimes unsightly for some. Your nail may also appear thickened, yellow, white spots and be brittle.

Your podiatrist knows the best treatments available for toenail infections. Treatment for this can be topical solutions, debridement and in some cases removal of the entire nail.

Fungal infections of the skin (tinea pedis) are a common condition we see usually arising on the skin of the foot, particularly on the sole and between the toes. The skin may itch, burn and in some cases develop scaling or small blisters. Tinea pedis is diagnosed by your podiatrist’s assessment and a correct treatment plan can be discussed. These can include, topical anti-fungal ointments, creams, sprays or oral medication may be prescribed.

We have three Core Clinic locations – Warkworth (which is convenient for Warkworth clients too), Silverdale (clients from from Orewa, Whangaparaoa, Millwater and surrounding areas, and Albany (which services clients from the North Shore and East Coast Bays).
