Sports orthotics and orthotic support braces - book at our North Shore clinic in Albany or at Silverdale or Warkworth
When an injury happens, whether it be the end of a season or a niggle that just won’t let up it can be frustrating.
Whether you are a weekend warrior, kicking the football with the kids or training for your next marathon, sports injuries are the last thing you want.
Sometimes after an injury your foot/lower limb needs a little helping hand to get it back to a more preferred position to allow for less stress on the areas and aid in healing injuries. Sports orthotics help healing and reduce the risk of re-injury, and are designed with the movement of the foot and the sport you are playing in mind.
Sports orthotics range from prefabricated custom orthotics to custom-made orthotics in different materials and shapes as a result of the biomechanical assessment that is carried out by one of our podiatrists. Book an appointment with Core Clinic at either our main clinic in Albany or at one of our part-time clinics in Warkworth or Silverdale. Our convenient locations means we are easy to get to whether you live on the North Shore, the Hibiscus Coast or in the Rodney district.
Sports orthotics are used for:
- an injury that isn’t healing
- repetitive injuries
- prevention of injuries
- to aid with better foot position and function
- to aid in rehabilitation
Accommodative orthotics
Conditions like arthritis and diabetes, congenital deformities and surgery can all lead to a permanent change in the structure of the foot, which can lead to pain and high-pressure loading areas when walking around.
Accommodative orthotics are designed to help off-load and cushion these areas without functionally changing the position of the foot. By reducing shock and pressures going through the foot and helping with impact it can take pressure away from painful areas, helping you get back to your everyday life with minimal pain.

How do orthotics get fitted?
When it comes to orthotics it isn’t always as simple as getting a pair and putting them into your shoes. There are many different shapes, sizes and functions of orthotics and which one is best suited to you comes down to an assessment by one of our podiatrists.
Step 1: Assessment
One of our podiatrists will do a full biomechanical assessment. This includes gait analysis, weight-bearing and non-weight-bearing checks, musculoskeletal tests, footwear check/options and then discussions on the different types of orthotics.
Step 2: Fitting
Some orthotics can be issued and dispensed on the same day as your bio-mechanical consults. Others may need to be sent away to a lab to be made. This can take up to two weeks. Once they have arrived in the clinic, someone will contact you to book an orthotic fitting where the podiatrist will make sure the orthotics fit correctly in your shoes. You will also receive a leaflet explaining how to wear your new orthotics in.
Step 3: Follow Ups
There are typically two follow-up orthotic checks – The first one is usually done after two weeks during which the podiatrist will check how the wear in process has gone. The podiatrist will check your orthotics, making sure they are worn correctly, and see if they need any further adjustments.
Then you are able to go off and wear the orthotics as much as possible for a further four weeks, and after this time return to have your final check and discharge.
